History of Breed: The Berger Picard is a native French breed.It is a livestock guarding dog and loves to herd.It also is considered to be a descendant of Celtic or Asian dogs and was originally from the Picardie region of north-eastern France.
This breed nearly became extinct after both world wars, and is still considered rare to find in both France and in the rest of Europe.
Description: Medium- sized,muscular and rectangular in shape.Long tail with a curve at the end.The Berger has a long coat of gray with various shades.Medium-size shaggy, terrier -like coat.Undercoat is soft and thick.Large, naturally erect ears.
Height:21.5-25.5 inches
Weight:50-70 pounds
Temperament: The Berger Picard is a fun, playful dog.This breed interacts wonderfully with children and is friendly.The Berger is also intelligent and has a strong work drive.
Activity Level:High
Needs: Lots of grooming and exercise,socialization and positive training.
Health Concerns: Hip dysplasia,PRA
