The Kooikerhondje is also known as Kooiker Dog, Dutch Decoy Spaniel and Dutch Decoy Dog.Originally from the Netherlands,this breed has existed since the 16th century.The Kooikerhondje was bred as a tolling dog and used to chase ducks into nets.After WW2, this breed nearly faced extinction due to the dwindling duck population.Today this breed is popular in Holland  but is still difficult to find elsewhere.

Description: A small dog that is longer than tall.Carrying a broad head, the Kooikerhondje has intelligent almond-shaped eyes and long drop ears.With an orangey/tan colored double coat-medium -length straight outer coat , this breed has a defining white blaze on an orangey/tan colored face.Long tail is feathered as are the ears.

Height: 14-16 inches

Weight: 20-24 pounds

Temperament: Great temperament being friendly and active.This breed is also sometimes known to be noisy.Super sweet with family and friends .Good with older children and like most dogs, must be supervised around young children.

Activity Level. Moderate to high

Special Needs.Socialization, positive training and supervision with children.

Health Concerns: Cataracts, epilepsy,von Willebrand’s Disease,hereditary necrotizing myelopathy,luxating patellas
