DOG CUBANO-AN EXTINCT BREED

 

 

Often called the Cuban Mastiff or Cuban Dogo, this is now an extinct breed .

 

An extremely handsome breed that was a type of Bull Mastiff bred in Cuba.

 

 

Initially bred to catch runaway slaves but with the abolition of the slave trade, the Dogo Cubano became too expensive to feed resulting in the extinction of this breed.They were also used for dog fighting.

 

 

Appearance

 

Larger than the bulldog but smaller than the Mastiff.

The Cuban Mastiff had a mostly white coat .

Weighed nearly 100 pounds, and closely resembled the Argentinean Mastiff.

History

 

The Cuban Mastiff was introduced from England in about 1560.

 

This dog was crossed with many other breeds such as the Pit Bull and Dogo Argentinos and many experts agree that there are no pure lines of the Dogo Cubano.
